About the ECO4 Scheme
What is the ECO4 Scheme?
The ECO4 Scheme is a big plan by the government to make houses more energy-efficient, which means they stay warm with less energy and smaller bills. This plan is set to run from April 2022 to March 2026 and has £4 billion set aside to help make this happen across Great Britain.
Who Does ECO4 Help?
The main focus is on families who don’t have a big budget. If you’re already getting help from the government because money is tight, ECO4 is here for you. The plan includes a special part called “ECO4 Flex” for families needing a little help, even if they’re not on benefit programs. Local councils, the Scottish and Welsh governments, and energy suppliers are all chipping in, aiming to help over 3.5 million homes.
What Does ECO4 Offer?
Homes that need a lot of work to become energy-efficient, especially those in the D-G energy bands, will get the most attention. There are specific goals, like improving at least 150,000 homes in the private sector and installing special insulation in 90,000 homes with solid walls. If you’ve got a broken boiler or certain types of electric heating, ECO4 might replace or fix them. But, there’s a limit each year, so it’s good to check early.
What is ECO Flex?
The “ECO Flex” scheme, an extension of the UK’s Energy Company Obligation (ECO), empowers local authorities to assist households struggling with fuel poverty or living in energy-inefficient homes, even if they don’t meet the standard ECO criteria. This more inclusive approach allows councils to establish their eligibility parameters, potentially benefiting low-income residences not on specific benefits, those with health conditions affected by colder homes, and other situations indicative of fuel poverty. Eligible households can receive various energy efficiency enhancements, such as insulation or more efficient heating systems, contributing to reduced energy bills and improved home comfort. The application process, handled by local authorities or designated energy-saving service providers, offers a tailored route to securing these vital home improvements.
